Nob Hill
Neighborhood Overview:
Nob Hill also known as the NW District consists of Uptown, NW 23rd Avenue (“trendy-third”), NW 21st Avenue, the Alphabet Blocks and NoLo (“north of Lovejoy”). The NW District is an eclectic mix of nationally acclaimed dining, boutique shopping, pubs, yoga studios and small commercial ventures. It’s where Portland’s indie spirit mixes with refined attitudes. Although parking is limited in many parts of this neighborhood, the street car and multiple bus lines provide easy access. The NW District is also home to Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital. One area of this neighborhood, the Alphabet Blocks has been recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. The NW District is also home to the NoLo, the last frontier for residential and retail development in northwest Portland. NoLo is a transition area that is sandwiched between NW 21st Avenue, the Alphabet Blocks and the Pearl, bordered in the north by the NW Industrial District and on the south by Lovejoy Street and has yet to reach its development potential in terms of complimenting the nearby neighborhoods. The NW District is a lively, active neighborhood making it a perfect fit for people who like to be able to walk out their front door to their favorite café or to catch a movie at the local independent theater. The residents of the NW District make their homes in single family historic Craftsman, Old Portland and Victorian homes, many of which have been converted to multifamily plexes, brick and stucco apartment and condo buildings built in bygone eras, as well as contemporary townhome and condo complexes.
